a field guide to surfing the great wall

Aside from the fact that you can actually luge off the great wall of China, the other great wall requires a certain amount of technical finesse to deal with blocked sites. One day Blogger works (not today), next day it does not. So here are a few proxies that allow you to actually get to the sites you want such as wikipedia or flickr. The added bonus is that these sites often strip out hazardous coding and allow you to remain private and anonymous.

I tested several sites but many came back with this startling revelation:

CGI Error

You’re from china.

?????????????

Actually I am IN China and that is absolutely why I need your service. Since theirs did not work here are the ones that did:

  • Anonymouse – Free anonymous surfing, simple to use and works pretty quick*
  • PHProxy – Web proxy, requiring JavaScript.
  • Proxify – Free web proxy with optional removal of cookies, scripts, ads and referers. Requires cookies.*
  • Radical Overthrow – CGI Proxy site with SSL support.
  • Web3Proxy
  • youhide lets you remove cookies, adds and scripts.*
  • zend2.com

* denotes a techtipster favourite. Got one you like? Please add it in our comments section and happy surfing.
