Technology for goin’ hero
If teachers are not careful and deliberate, technology tends to be used as a getting things done tool. That’s good but not good enough.

Teachers and students need to use technology to learn and do the things they could not without technology. My six-year-old’s favorite protector of Earth, Ben Tennyson, gets it right. He uses his Omnitrix for “goin’ hero.”
For personal productivity or goin’ hero, how does tech tend to be treated in your school?




technology is improving day by day, its a great success.
Like a lot of schools, for us, a little of both.
Love the way you put it, though (or the way Ben 10 does). It needs to be about the learning and going hero.
Some of our success stories, start by recognizing a tool for its “productivity” help, but then through use see the “heroic” side of it.
So what drives tech planning and implementation more, getting things done or transformative learning experiences? Are efficiency and effectiveness or creativity and collaboration putting technology in our schools? Do we introduce tech tools for productivity and later leverage them for learning? Or do we lead with the purpose of learning and let the productivity piece follow?
From the beginning, I think we need to be clear about what we intend the tech tools to do for our productivity and student achievement. Not that we aren’t but I’m just wondering which purpose drives the discussions more often and how that effects, in the long run, the way we use technology.
